Your home's locks do a quiet job every day, and most people only think about them when something goes wrong: a key stops turning, a deadbolt sticks, a move-in raises the question of who still has a copy, or a break-in attempt leaves a door damaged. Residential locksmith work covers all of these, from a simple rekey to replacing hardware to upgrading the security of the doors you use most.

Crenshaw Lock Company has served Los Angeles-area homeowners, renters and landlords since 1987, led by owner and lead technician David Shar. We are fully mobile. There is no storefront to visit; we come to your house, apartment or condo with the tools and hardware needed to do the work on site.

Whether the job is planned, like rekeying after a purchase, or urgent, like a lockout late at night, we aim to explain your options plainly, so you can choose what makes sense for your door, your household and your budget.

How our residential locksmith service works

  1. 1

Tell us what is going on

Call (323) 997-8867 and describe the situation: lockout, lost keys, a worn lock, a move-in, or an upgrade you have in mind. Mention the door type and lock brand if you know them.

  2. 2

    We come to your home

Because we are fully mobile, a technician travels to your address with tools and common hardware. Nothing requires you to leave home or bring locks anywhere.

  3. 3

    Inspect the doors and locks

We look at the lock, the strike plate, the door and frame. A lock that seems broken is sometimes a alignment or wear issue, and we tell you which it is before any work begins.

  4. 4

Review options and agree on the work

We explain whether rekeying, repairing, replacing or upgrading fits best, and what each involves, so you decide with full information before we start.

  5. 5

Do the work and test it

We rekey, install or repair the hardware, then test every key and the full operation of the lock, including latching and deadbolt throw, so it works smoothly.

  6. 6

Hand over keys and share care tips

You receive working keys and a clear summary of what was done. We can point out other weak spots around the home if you would like a second opinion.

What affects the price

  • The type of work: rekeying existing locks, repairing a worn mechanism, and installing new hardware are different jobs with different labor and parts.
  • The number of locks or doors involved, since a whole-house rekey differs from a single deadbolt.
  • The hardware you choose, including brand, grade and finish, and whether you want keyed-alike locks across doors.
  • Condition of the door and frame, such as a damaged strike plate or misaligned door that needs correcting for the lock to work.
  • Time and urgency: after-hours or emergency calls differ from scheduled daytime appointments.
  • Your location within our service area and the travel involved to reach you.

Why choose us

  • Serving Los Angeles-area homes since 1987, with owner David Shar leading the work.
  • Fully mobile: we bring the shop to your door rather than asking you to come to us.
  • Available 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays, for lockouts and security emergencies.
  • We recommend rekeying or repair when that solves the problem, rather than defaulting to replacement.
  • We explain the options and the work before starting, so there are no surprises about what is being done.
  • Coverage of the whole region, from the Valleys to the coast to Ventura County, under one phone number.

Where we work

We serve homes across Greater Los Angeles, including the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, the South Bay and Harbor area, the Westside, the Gateway Cities, and Central and South LA. Houses, condos, apartments and townhomes all get the same careful attention, whether the job is a single deadbolt or every lock in the home.

We also work in parts of Ventura County. Since we are mobile, coverage depends on where our technicians are rather than on a shop location. Call (323) 997-8867 with your address and we will confirm we can reach you and talk through what you need.

Residential Locksmith — FAQs

What is the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?
Rekeying changes the internal pins so old keys no longer work while the existing lock stays in place. Replacing swaps the hardware entirely. Rekeying is often a good fit after a move when the locks are in good shape. Call (323) 997-8867 to talk through which suits you.
Should I rekey my locks after buying a home?
It is a common and sensible step, since you cannot know who holds copies of the old keys. Rekeying gives you new keys for the existing locks and is a straightforward way to start fresh.
Can you repair a lock instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Sticking, loose or hard-to-turn locks are sometimes fixed with repair or adjustment, or by correcting the door alignment. We inspect first and tell you what is actually wrong.
Do you work at night and on weekends?
Yes. We are available 24/7 for lockouts and urgent security needs. Call (323) 997-8867 any time.
Can you make all my doors work with one key?
In many cases we can rekey or install keyed-alike locks so one key operates multiple doors. Compatibility depends on the existing hardware, so we check what you have first.
Can you upgrade my home's security?
Yes. Upgrades can include higher-grade deadbolts, reinforced strike plates and other door hardware improvements. We look at your doors and suggest what fits how your home is used.
Do I need to be home during the work?
Someone should be present, or arrangements made, so we can access the doors and hand over the keys. Landlords and property managers can coordinate with us for rental units.
Do you have a shop I can visit?
No. We are fully mobile and come to your home. Just call (323) 997-8867 with your address and what you need.
