Access control replaces the question of who has a key with a record of who can open which door and when. For an office, shop, warehouse, clinic or multi-tenant building, that means you can add a new employee, remove a former one, and stop worrying about keys that were copied or never returned.

We install keypad, card and fob systems at business entrances. A keypad suits a small team or a back door. Cards and fobs suit larger staffs where you want each person to have their own credential that can be turned off individually. We help you pick based on how your business actually runs, not on whatever is most complicated.

Crenshaw Lock Company has served Los Angeles and Ventura County since 1987, led by owner and lead technician David Shar. We are fully mobile, so we assess and install at your door, and we handle the lock hardware side as well as the electronics.

How our access control service works

  1. 1

    Talk through your entrances

We start with a call about which doors need control, how many people use them, and whether you need to track entries or simply restrict them. Call (323) 997-8867 any time to begin.

  2. 2

    On-site door assessment

We come to your business and look at each door: its material, frame, existing lock, how it closes, and what power and wiring are available nearby. Fire-exit and life-safety needs are considered before anything is chosen.

  3. 3

    Recommend a system

We explain the options in plain language, keypad, card or fob, standalone or networked, and recommend what fits your doors and your staff, so you know what you are getting before work begins.

  4. 4

    Install hardware and readers

We mount the lock or strike, the reader or keypad, and any power and wiring components. We aim to keep the door secure and working throughout the job.

  5. 5

    Program credentials and test

We set up codes, cards or fobs, test every door under normal use and edge cases, and confirm the door locks properly when closed.

  6. 6

    Walk you through management

We show you how to add and remove users and change codes, so you are not dependent on us for everyday changes.

What affects the price

  • The number of doors being controlled, since each entrance needs its own hardware and programming.
  • The type of system: a standalone keypad versus a card or fob system, or one managed across several doors.
  • Door and frame condition, including whether existing doors can accept the new hardware or need modification.
  • Electrical and wiring needs, such as running power to the door or working around existing construction.
  • The type of locking hardware, such as electric strikes, magnetic locks or electrified handles, and any life-safety requirements.
  • The number of credentials needed and whether you want entry records or scheduled access.

Why choose us

  • Fully mobile: we do the assessment and installation at your business, with no storefront visit needed.
  • Locksmith-first approach: we understand the mechanical lock and door as well as the electronics, so the two work together.
  • Operating since 1987, with owner David Shar leading the work.
  • Available 24/7, useful when a break-in, a lost credential or a staff change makes access an urgent problem.
  • We recommend what fits your doors and staff rather than pushing the most complex system.
  • We teach you to manage users yourself after install.

Where we work

We install access control for businesses across Greater Los Angeles and Ventura County. That includes the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, the South Bay and Harbor area, the Westside, the Gateway Cities, and Central and South LA, plus parts of Ventura County. Offices, retail shops, industrial units and multi-tenant buildings in these areas all come to us with similar needs.

Because we are fully mobile, we travel to your door instead of asking you to come to us. Call (323) 997-8867 with your address and what you want to secure, and we will tell you whether we serve your location and how we would approach the job.

Access Control — FAQs

What is the difference between keypad, card and fob access control?
A keypad uses a code typed at the door. Cards and fobs are carried by each person and read at the door. Keypads are simple for small teams, while cards and fobs let you disable one person's credential without affecting anyone else.
Can you add access control to doors I already have?
Often yes. It depends on the door, frame and existing hardware. We check on site and tell you whether your door can take the new hardware or needs changes. Call (323) 997-8867 to schedule a look.
Do I need electricity at the door?
Many systems do need power for the reader and the electric lock or strike. Some standalone keypad locks run on batteries. We assess the wiring options at your entrance before recommending a system.
What happens to the door if the power goes out?
It depends on the hardware chosen. Some locks stay locked and some release without power. We discuss this with you, especially for exits, so the door behaves safely and the way you need.
Can I remove an employee's access without changing locks?
Yes, that is a main benefit. You disable that person's code, card or fob, and the rest of your team is unaffected. We show you how to do this after installation.
Do you install on multiple doors or multi-tenant buildings?
Yes. We can control one door or several. Tell us about your layout when you call (323) 997-8867 and we will explain how we would approach it.
Can you help if my existing system stopped working?
Call us and describe what is happening. We can look at the reader, lock and power on site and tell you whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.
Do you come out outside business hours?
We are available 24/7 and fully mobile, so we can come to your business when it suits you, including after hours.
