Commercial doors take far more abuse than residential ones. A storefront door may open and close hundreds of times a day, and the hardware on it, whether a push bar, a mortise lock, a pivot, a closer or a thumbturn, wears down gradually until it sticks, drags, fails to latch or will not lock at closing time. When that happens, the problem is not only inconvenience. A door that will not secure leaves your inventory, your equipment and your staff exposed.

Crenshaw Lock Company has served Los Angeles and Ventura County since 1987, and owner and lead technician David Shar has worked on the full range of commercial door hardware over those years. We repair and replace hardware on storefront doors, aluminum-frame doors with narrow stiles, and mortise-lock doors common in older commercial buildings. Every job is done on site, because we are a mobile service with no storefront to bring your door to.

Some hardware can be repaired, and some is better replaced. We try to tell you honestly which is which. A worn latch or a loose cylinder may only need adjustment or a new part, while a cracked or badly worn lock body, or hardware that no longer suits how the door is used, may be worth replacing. Either way, we aim to leave your door opening smoothly and locking securely.

How our commercial door hardware service works

  1. 1

You call and describe the door

Call (323) 997-8867 any time, day or night. Tell us the type of door (glass storefront, aluminum frame, wood or metal with a mortise lock), what the hardware is doing, and whether the door can currently be locked. That helps us bring the right parts.

  2. 2

    We come to your business

Our technician drives to your location, whether it is a retail shop, an office, a restaurant or a multi-tenant building. Nothing needs to be removed and taken to a shop.

  3. 3

Inspect the hardware and the door

We check the lock or exit device, the latch and strike alignment, the closer, hinges or pivots, and the frame itself. Many hardware complaints come from a door that has dropped or shifted, so we look at the whole setup rather than only the part that failed.

  4. 4

    Explain repair versus replacement

We walk you through what we found and what the options are. If a repair will hold up, we say so. If the hardware is worn out or a poor fit for the door, we explain why replacement makes more sense.

  5. 5

    Repair or install the hardware

We fit the new or repaired hardware to the door, whether that means a mortise lock body, an aluminum-door deadbolt, a push-pull set or a replacement cylinder. We re-key or match keying where needed.

  6. 6

Test and secure before we leave

We operate the door repeatedly, check that it latches and locks cleanly, confirm the keys work, and make sure the business is secure when we go.

What affects the price

  • The type of hardware involved, since a simple cylinder or strike repair differs from replacing a full mortise lock body or exit device
  • Whether the existing hardware can be repaired or must be replaced
  • The door and frame type, because narrow-stile aluminum doors and storefront glass doors need specific hardware
  • The number of doors being worked on in one visit
  • Whether the part is a standard item or must be sourced for an older or specialty door
  • Timing and urgency, including after-hours calls and situations where the business must be secured right away

Why choose us

  • Fully mobile service, so we work on your door at your location without anyone hauling hardware to a shop
  • In business serving Los Angeles and Ventura County since 1987, with owner David Shar leading the work
  • Familiarity with storefront, aluminum-frame and mortise hardware rather than residential locks only
  • Honest repair-versus-replace advice, including telling you when a simple adjustment will do
  • Available 24/7 for situations where a business cannot be locked up
  • We look at door alignment and closers, not only the lock, since the real cause is often a door that has shifted

Commercial Door Hardware — FAQs

Can you repair hardware on aluminum-frame storefront doors?
Yes. Aluminum-frame doors have narrow stiles and need hardware made to fit them. We repair and replace locks, cylinders, latches and push-pull hardware on these doors. Call (323) 997-8867 to describe yours.
What is mortise hardware, and can it be repaired?
A mortise lock sits in a pocket cut into the edge of the door and is common in older commercial buildings and some storefronts. Many can be repaired with new parts or a rebuilt cylinder, but if the lock body is badly worn we may recommend replacement.
My storefront door will not lock. Can someone come right away?
We are available 24/7 and are fully mobile. Call (323) 997-8867, tell us what the door is doing, and we will work to get your business secured.
Should I repair or replace worn commercial door hardware?
It depends on the condition and the door. A loose or misaligned part is often a repair, while worn internal parts, cracked bodies or hardware that does not suit the door usually point to replacement. We will explain the options after inspecting it.
Why does my door drag or fail to latch even with new hardware?
Often the door or frame has shifted, or the closer, hinges or pivots are worn. We check alignment and the strike as part of the job so the new hardware works as it should.
Can you work on several doors in one visit?
Yes. If your building has multiple doors needing attention, tell us when you call at (323) 997-8867 so we can plan parts and time for all of them.
Do I have to bring the door or hardware to a shop?
No. We are mobile only and do the work at your business. We have no storefront, so everything happens on site.
Can you match keys across the new hardware?
Where the hardware allows, we can re-key or match cylinders so your keys work as intended. Mention this when you call so we can plan for it.
